Where do these figures come from?

Rent is what 4 Erasmus students report in the European Commission survey (2026-08). Food, transport and leisure are an estimate from Eurostat price indices (2024), checked against Numbeo (2026-09). Think of a shared flat and cooking at home. It is not a market price and does not include flights or your home university fees.

    Experiencias Erasmus Budapest

The archive of first-person stories from those who have already done their Erasmus in Budapest, paginated and divided by language: the page itself keeps count (218 in English, 93 in Italian, 56 in Portuguese, and 36 in French, in addition to those read in Spanish). All profiles follow the same questionnaire, so they can be compared with each other: why they chose the city, how long the scholarship lasted and how much they received per month, whether it was difficult to find a flat and at what price, how much they spent in total, what the student atmosphere was like, and where they went out at night. In one of the reviewed entries, the rent was €240 per month and the total expenditure was between €500 and €600. Watch out for the dates: many entries were published four, five, and six years ago, so the prices are a guide but are not today's rates.

Consejos prácticos - Budapest (consejos prácticos de becarios)

A 16-page PDF where the Universidad de Zaragoza compiles the reports that its scholarship holders submit upon returning from Budapest, grouped by academic year: 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025. They all follow the same outline—geographical location, transport, accommodation, leisure, and a final 'More information' section where warnings are gathered—and since they are dated, you can see what has changed from one batch to another. What it provides is specific: a monthly student pass for about €8-9, a room in a shared flat between €300 and €450, a long-term apartment for €500-550, districts mentioned by number and name (VI Terézváros, VII, XIII, V), rental websites they actually used (helloroom.net, roommatesbudapest.com), and a warning repeated cohort after cohort about Facebook group scams and disproportionate deposits. They also recommend bringing Revolut or N26 for the forint and always checking the card terminal.
