Where do these figures come from?

This is an estimate: it starts from Eurostat price indices (2024) for rent, food, transport and leisure in Serbia, adjusted for city size and checked against Numbeo (2026-09) and the European Commission's Erasmus student survey. Think of a shared flat and cooking at home. It is not a market price and does not include flights or your home university fees.

    Study in Serbia - Official Guide

    It is a government portal created to attract foreign students to Serbia. Its student life section includes very detailed guides on the climate, local gastronomy, and visa and residence procedures, a fundamental point since Serbia does not belong to the European Union or the Schengen area. It indicates that a reasonable monthly budget ranges between €400 and €600, highlighting that meals in university canteens (the famous 'menzas') cost barely one and a half euros. However, it does not tell you how complicated and slow the in-person bureaucratic process to obtain a temporary residence permit at the police station can be.

    ESN Belgrade Official Profile

    Since traditional forums about Belgrade have disappeared (as in the case of Erasmusu, which gives a 410 error) and their website often suffers server crashes, the official Instagram profile of the local delegation of the Erasmus Student Network (ESN Belgrado) has become the best bulletin board and meeting point. They have thousands of followers and post stories almost daily announcing 'Welcome Weeks', integration events like city tours or pub crawls, and excursions around the Balkans. What they do not share in public are specific questions about credit transfers or subjects, for which they redirect you to sign up for their Buddy program via direct message.
